First off, I know that I am not the most qualified to tell this story. But no one else has ventured to take it, and this is very important event. Yes, Sarah's baby was finally born at 1:37 AM on October 22nd. His name has been a greatly debated subject among HarSmiDuds, with Grandpa suggesting Moriancumer, Smiths considering names like David, Benjamin, and Hyrum, and kids making up ridiculous five-syllable names like Brother of Jared and Angel Moroni. However, baby Smith has been named David William, ending the ridiculous name discussion.
It's true that this little guy had lots of name options thrown around - We can’t forget Sam’s earnest desire to have him named Superman (NOT Batman, because he's mean!) Clear up until after he was born and a day or so old, Sam was voting for Superman. David is obviously Sarah’s father’s name and it is also the middle name of Zach’s father. William is a family name on both sides of the family, so that works out nicely.
The first words out of Sam’s mouth when he walked into the hospital room and saw Mom, Dad and baby were, “Mom, he came out of your tummy!”
They are now trying to find a nickname that feels more like a baby/kid instead of a man name (David). Davey is out (Sarah doesn’t like it). Big D, Super D (still trying to help Sam out), DW, D Smith… I’m sure they will entertain ideas and thoughts from the peanut gallery :)
David has been home for a week now and is certainly loved and adored by all. His siblings take any and all opportunities to hold him and adore him and lay on top of his little bed and squeeze his cheeks and laugh at him when he pees on mom, etc. etc. Luckily, he is sturdy and strong and flexible, so he is holding up to all the lovin’. He may have a future in gymnastics because there was a complete overhand knot tied in the umbilical cord when he came out, so obviously, when he was smaller and there was more room to move, he was doing some amazing flips! He also had the cord wrapped around his head twice and we were so happy that it didn’t cause any problems at birth!
