So, when I was in 4th grade, I wrote a story for school about a winter HarSmiDud camping trip. Reading it again, I realize that Grandma and Grandpa would not have been this reckless, but I will post it anyways.
The Camping Surprise
One morning I opened my eyes and looked around. I had completely forgotten that I was camping! I looked around the tent and saw that Henry, Aly, Josh, and Grandma were already awake. Outside, these four were sitting around the fire in their pajamas drinking hot cocoa and talking. When they saw me, Grandma smiled and handed me a cup of hot cocoa that had been sitting on a chair near the fire. "Good morning, Ella," she said. "How did you sleep?"
"Pretty well, for camping," I replied.
"What are we going to do today?" Josh asked.
"We are going to eat breakfast and then we will explore the woods," Grandma answered.
"Yeah!" Henry exclaimed.
"Shh...Quiet down," I said. Then we saw a curly-haired little head poke out of the tent.
"Hi, Elijah," Grandma said, handing him a cocoa. "How did you sleep?"
"Good," he replied. "What's for breakfast?"
For breakfast we had pancakes topped with butter and maple syrup. As Elijah said, "Dish ish da mosht dewishus shting I ever tashted!" After breakfast, Grandpa called us all together.
"Shh..." Grandma said. When we all quieted down, Grandpa began to speak.
"Today," he said,"we are going to go exploring!" There was an eruption of cheers.
"Cool!" yelled my little sister Caroline.
"Quiet down," said Grandpa."So, when you're exploring, what do you need to do?"
Aly raised her hand. "Always stay where you can see Grandma and Grandpa."
"Exactly," said Grandpa. "Okay, let's go!"
On our exploring trip, we found many cool things, like a huge snow-covered tree with ferns growing on it, and a huge rock that we all climbed. Talking loudly and tromping through the snowy woods, we came across a cave. "Wow!" Caroline yelled. A growl emanated from inside. Caroline peeked in. "A bear!" She shouted. "Run!"
She took off, but I held her back. "Stop!" I told her. "If you see a bear in the wild, calmly walk away."
"Oh," she said. "Sorry."
"It's okay," I said. You didn't know."
There is more to this story that I will publish another time. But for now, goodbye.
