No house is officially a home until you've experience some sort of catastrophe. The Smiths achieved this only a few days into living here. Sarah was making dinner, a normal enough scene, when all of the sudden smoke began to fill the air. Fire alarms went off, and kids rushed to investigate the calamity. The smoke was coming from the drawer beneath the oven, which was thought to be a storage drawer. Sarah opened the drawer to find flames inside. She grabbed the fire extinguisher while the Smith kids exited the house. Josh was in the shower at the time of the incident, so he wasn't aware of what was going on. When I was sent to retrieve him, I said, "Don't worry, Mom already put the fire out." This shocked him, and he soon joined us outside. Zach came home in the middle of all this, and stayed home to help clean up while I took the boys down to the park. Everyone was fine, but this plastic pan lid was not.
It had been stored in the drawer below the oven, and only after the fire did we notice this.
In case you can't read that, it says 'Do Not Use For Storage' |
